12th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake
On the 11th, the 12th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, which left more than 22,000 people dead or missing including related deaths, a moment of silence was observed for the victims at 2:46 p.m. in the affected areas of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.
The town of Rikuzentakata has residential areas on high ground and a seawall. Crowds of people lined up on the seawall and offered a silent prayer toward the sea (the miraculous lone pine in the center back) (2:46 p.m., in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture)
