Honda invests 8 trillion yen in R & D in the next 10 years and Launches 30 EV models in 30 years

Honda announced on the 12th that it will invest about 8 trillion yen in research and development including electric vehicles (EV) and software in the next 10 years. By 2030, 30 EV models will be launched worldwide, and the annual production scale of EVs will exceed 2 million units. Approximately 43 billion yen will be invested in the all-solid-state battery under development, and a demonstration line will be launched in the spring of 2012, aiming to be adopted in models to be released in the latter half of the 20s.

The company has set a goal of making all new vehicles sold worldwide into EVs and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) in 1940. First, it will concentrate management resources on the main EV and enhance its development competitiveness.

Of the 8 trillion yen in R & D investment, about 5 trillion yen will be allocated to electrification and software. We will invest 1 trillion yen for new growth including resource recycling and aggressively invest 10 billion yen annually in start-up companies with promising technologies and business models.

President Toshihiro Mibe said at a press conference on the same day that the company's production scale, including hybrid vehicles, as of 30 years is "about 5 million units, of which about 40% will be EVs." Regarding the business model of the EV era, "In addition to continuing the business with the value of hardware (sold out the car as before), we will increase the value with software. OTA (Over The Air = wireless communication using an electronic platform) ) Needs to provide the value of ever-evolving features. " As for batteries, we procured "Altium" manufactured by General Motors

(GM), which we are affiliated with, in North America. In addition to GM, it is considering establishing a production joint venture. Due to discussions, the name of the partner company has not been announced at this time. In China, it will further deepen cooperation with the country's battery maker, Ningde Era New Energy Technology (CATL), and in Japan, it will be procured from Envision AESC (Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) for mini-vehicle EVs. In Japan, commercial EVs for mini vehicles will be launched in the 1 million yen range in the first half of 2012, and then mini EVs and SUVs (sport utility vehicles) for individuals will be launched.
