Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plan to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
It has been revealed that the Japanese and Indian governments have entered into coordination for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which is scheduled to be held at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on September 27. He is also expected to meet with Prime Minister Kishida. This was confirmed by several government officials.
During his term as prime minister, Abe strengthened relations with India with a view to countering the rising power of China and also led the quadrilateral framework "Quad" consisting of Japan, the United States, Australia, and India. Modi visited Japan in May this year for the Quad Summit and met with Abe. After Abe's death, he posted on Twitter, "I am shocked and saddened beyond words at the tragic loss of a dear friend." Prior to Modi's visit to Japan, the two governments plan to hold a Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting (2+2) in Tokyo on September 8 as well.
On the other hand, the Japanese government has begun coordination to invite about 6,400 people to attend the state funeral. Among former prime ministers after the war, Shigeru Yoshida's state funeral was held at the same Nippon Budokan in 1967, and it will be on the same scale as that time. All expenses will be borne by the national government, and the necessary expenses will be decided by the Cabinet in the near future. [Photo] Prime Minister Modi.
