Japan leads the world in inventions and applications for secondary batteries
According to a statistical survey conducted by the Japan Patent Office based on technology categories related to decarbonization, the number of rechargeable battery inventions by Japanese filed in multiple countries between 2010 and 2021 was 26,409, the highest in the world. Development for electric vehicles (EVs) is gaining momentum. Rechargeable batteries are a key technology for decarbonization, and Japan is expected to improve its competitiveness.
Japan has 26,409 rechargeable battery inventions, followed by the United States with 10,918 and Europe with 11,074.
In addition to rechargeable batteries, Japanese companies maintain a leading position in the fields of photovoltaic power generation and building energy conservation, where they have technological advantages.
