On the 7th, the Town Mother and Child Widow Welfare Association (Chairman Chizue Harada, 126 members) in Kikai Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, completed a thousand paper cranes in two colors, blue and yellow. I imagined the coloring of the national flag of Ukraine because I wanted to be close to the people of Ukraine who are suffering from the invasion of Russia. It is said that it will be sent to the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan, hoping for the early end of the war and world peace.

The welfare association is working to protect the welfare of single-mother families and widows, and actively engages in community exchanges through consolation, cherry-blossom viewing, cooking classes, etc. at elderly housing with care.

Mr. Harada (72), the chairman, was distressed by the local situation in the daily reports about the damage in Ukraine. She called on the members to support Ukraine even a little, and decided to give a thousand paper cranes, a stole, and a national flag.

Senbazuru is made by hand by members and completed in about a week. The stall and national flag in blue and yellow were completed through trial and error with the cooperation of Junko Oshima (80) of Kikaijima Dyeing and Weaving Studio.

Mr. Harada said, "Every time I see a dire situation in the press, it becomes painful. I wanted my children and grandchildren to have a war-free era, and I made it in the hope of peace," she said.
