Nippon Ham begins selling plant-based ``tuna'' using konnyaku flour, etc. as a way to intake protein
Nippon Ham has announced that it will become the first meat manufacturer to begin selling plant-based tuna.
Commercial sales are scheduled to begin in April, and the product will be made from konjac flour and other ingredients.
This initiative was developed in response to declining fishery resources and to propose plant-based protein as a way to consume .
It is the first attempt by a domestic meat manufacturer, and the company hopes to promote the spread of plant-based products through their use in food service.
Masayuki Nagata, General Manager of the Marketing Department of Nippon Ham's Processing Business Division, said, "We hope to create the expansion of plant-based products in the future.
